From July 1st to July 31st, the "Notti dell'Archeologia" Festival comes back. Now at its 13th edition, the event offers a wide choice of initiatives throughout the region (Arezzo, Firenze, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato, Siena).

If in 2012 the special openings were 220 spread in 81 cities with the participation of 115 museums and archaeological sites, the 2013 edition will be not less so. The main focus is on the extraordinary opening nights, together with workshops, guided tours, trekking tours and exhibitions. Food and wine will also play an important role with evenings dedicated to the rediscovery of food and old recipes, proposed by the best restaurants of the area.
This festival gets along perfectly with the initiative ‘Vetrina Toscana’, which aims to rediscover the artistic and handcrafted traditions of Tuscany as well as its production of wine and food. From Lunigiana to Maremma, from the Island of Elba to Cetona, from Florence to Siena, dozens of events will bring the ancient world to us as it has never happens during the rest of the year. The evenings are conceived for a heterogeneous public, ranging from the youngest to tourists who want to explore the treasures of the ancient Tuscany.

For movie lovers, during the festival, the International Archeology Film Festival will also take place, with the awarding of the prize ‘Notti dell'Archeologia’. Scheduled on July 9th in Piazza della Citadella  in Piombino, the opening event includes the screening of two masterpieces by Folco Quilici: L’impero di marmo and Relitti e tesori nei mari del mondo, interspersed by a meeting with the author, the director and the writer, on the topic ‘The Man and the Sea’.
After the opening night, from July 16th  to 18th , the Festival moves to Piazza Duomo in Siena, where the programme presents the screening of the competing films  and meetings with the leading archeologists of the region, such as Giuseppina-Carlotta Cianferoni, director of the Archaeological Museum of Florence and Marco Valenti, Professor of Medieval Archaeology at the University of Siena.

Among the films one should not miss: Tunnel per un mondo scomparso by  Philip J. Day, Diolkos per 1500 anni by  T.P. Tassios, Lievi perturbazioni al centro della Gallia by P. de Bozzi, M. Lemarié and S. Corréa, Cheope rivelato by Florence Tran and Carvilio, un enigma dell’antica Roma by Tricia Lawton. The evening of July 18th will be the closing event with the awarding of the ‘Notti dell’Archeologia 2013’ prize. Among the guests there will be Alfredo and Angelo Castiglioni, who will talk about their lives in Africa between adventure and archeology. Grand finale with a screening of their reportage: I pozzi cantanti d’Etiopia.
